Los Campesinos! Announce Tour Record Box Competition

Los Campesinos! are about to hit the road on their first tour since
finishing their upcoming album.

To celebrate the tour, the return to the US and the band's general
adoration of the 'local record shop', they've decided to build the ultimate LC!
fan's prize: a hand-picked selection of records... Neatly packed in a durable
tour-proof* box.

The band will be filming the box's travels across the tour, documenting
everything that goes in - be it a lucky find from a bargain bin, or a
friend's band's signed pressing.

To win the box, you'll have to follow its travels, across the US and
across the internet.

Gareth Campesinos explains all on http://www.loscampesinos.com

* Los Campesinos! make no guarantees that the box is actually tour
proof, and would hope that dents, scratches and general tampering with its
appearance would be part of its eventual charm.

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty Seven)

1. The Landfill Harmonic - Myspacerealpeel (Demo)
I came across this while scouting the web for new bands. I nicked this from the brilliant Unpredictable Porridge website which is a great resource for new music although there is some questionable stuff on there as well but if you look hard enough you can find some great stuff.

2. Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground (Island)
Taken from the London band's new album "I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose".

3. What's Up - Seasoning's Greeting (Obey Your Brain)
Bad name, great record. Taken from the album "Content Imagination".

4. The Cavalcade - Meet You In The Rain (Self Released)
The Cavalcade come from the north western town of Preston which is somewhere I've never been. This track is the title track from the bands debut ep which can be purchased from theirMyspace.

15th July - London, Half Moon
17th July - Liverpool, Magnet
31st July - Manchester, Roadhouse
8th August - St Helens, Fluid Live Lounge
18th September - Glasgow, The Captains Rest

5. 16 Bit - Jump (Southside Dub Stars)
Another awesome release by 16 Bit. If you have been paying attention you will recall the brilliant "Chainsaw Calligraphy" from earlier in the year. Well this is almost as good.

6. Revolving Paint Dream - Flowers In The Sky (Creation) CRE002
Following on from last weeks CRE001 is logically CRE002 which is a lovely slice of classic indiepop from 1984.

7. The Joy Formidable - Greyhounds In The Slips (BBC Session)
This is one of the tracks from their recent BBC session which can be downloaded in full below.

8. Cold Cave - Love Comes Close (What's Your Rupture)
Taken from their recent Etzel & Ruby 12" which is limited to just 300 copies. This track is also the title track of the bands new album which will be released through Heartworm records on July 14th (my birthday).

9. Black Time - Glass Shatters (Telephone Explosion)
Taken from a split 12" which they share with Ty Segall.

10th July - London, Arch 897
11th July - London, Union City Warehouse Party
29th August - London, Know Your Product @ Ryans Bar

10. Clark - Future Daniel (Warp)
Another track from the brilliant "Totems Flare" album which is released on 13th July.

11. St Christopher - Dive (Vinyl Japan)
Taken from the 1994 album "Love You To Pieces".

12. The Zookeepers - Sicky Sweet (Self Released)
Taken from their superb second album "Ballin Outrageous".

13. Benga - Buzzin' (Tempa)
I think this track first appeared on a white label some months ago but it's finally had a proper release through Tempa and the track which accompanies it "One Million" is pretty fine as well.

14. Ty Segall - In Love (Telephone Explosion)
This is one of the Ty Segall tracks from the 12" which he shares with Black Time.

The Joy Formidable - Radcliffe and Maconie Show, 17th June 2009

This was broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 last month and I can't believe it's taken me this long to listen to it. The Joy Formidable have given us one of he best records of the year with their wonderful "A Balloon Called Moaning" which I'm sure you're all well familiar with by now and if your not shame on you. I've seen the band live a couple of times and am always impressed by their pure energy on stage and if you get the chance to see them you should drop everything and make it a priority. You won't be disappointed. This session features three tracks performed live including an interesting version of the current single "Whirring" on which Rhydian forgets to plug his bass in until near the end. A new track which they have been playing live recently called "Greyhounds In The Slips" and an unbelievable version of "While The Flies" which is just spellbinding. In the interview the band indicate that they are currently hard at work on their next record and I for one grow damp with excitement.

Ritzy - Guitar/Vocals
Rhydian - Bass
Matt - Drums

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty Six)

1. The Longcut - Tell You So (Melodic)
Another track from the Manchester bands second album "Open Hearts".

2. Dublin - Like Magic (Like Me Riddim) (MP3)

3. Ant - Time I Was Gone (Acuarela)
The former Hefner drummer returns with his first record in....ages. It's a six track mini album/ep which features appearances from former bandmates Darren Hayman and Jack Hayter.

4. Kikumoto Allstars - I'll Make You Jack (International Deejay Gigolo)
Just when you thought the retro boom was over this happens. Had this lp been released in 1988 it would already have sounded dated but in 2009 it actually sounds good. The album is on DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolo label and cunningly entitled "House Music". This really shouldn't work at all and could easily have been an embarrassing cock-up but somehow the Kikumoto Allstars (great name by the way) have created one of the most entertaining records so far this year. I can just imagine these sounds emanating from caravans up and down the country all summer.

5. The Radio Dept - David (Labrador)
Taken from the new four track ep which was released last week. There are a couple of good remixes on here as well.

6. Billy Bragg - Between The Wars (Go Discs)
Just felt like hearing this again. Taken from the 1985 ep of the same name.

7. Hyperbubble - Better Set Your Fazers To Stun (Bubblegum)
New single featuring legendary pop queen Helen Love on vocals.

8. Boys Noise - Starter
Taken from the new maxi 12". There will apparently be a new album in the autumn.

9. Lost Valentinos - Midnights (Original Parts 1 & 2)
This is a rack from the debut single by Sydney's Los Valentinos. Bit of a blinder I'm sure you'll agree. The bands debut album "Cities Of Gold" will be released shortly and on the strength of this it should be worth looking forward to.

10. 93 Million Miles From The Sun - Yesterday Morning ()
This is definitely the most played track on the Burning World ipod this week. The whole album is brilliant but this track in particular jumps out at me.

11. Neokarma Jooklo Trio - Night Revelation (Conspiracy)
This is great. It comes from a four track ep which is being marketed as an lp. Two of the tracks are well over ten minutes so I suppose you could. The ep is called "Times Vibes" and was released in March through Conspiracy Records. The Neokarma Jooklo Trio have been around for a few years now and have released at least two previous albums which are on my shopping list and as soon as I find them you will probably hear the results on this site.

12. The Legend - 73 In 83 (Creation)
For some reason I've recently been digging out all of the early Creation Records singles and listening to them in order (shut up I know what you're thinking). I had forgotten just how good most of their early releases were so, just in case you have no idea what I'm blabbering on about I'm going to post one track from every seven inch in every Fodder until I get either bored of told to stop. This track was the first release on Creation back in 1983. (CRE001)

13. Engineers - Emergency Room (Kscope)
Taken from the album "Three Fact Fader".

10th July - London, Bush Hall
8th October - Leeds, Academy

14. Laurel Aitken - Halfway To Paradise (Pressure Drop)
Taken from the album "Says Fire" which was originally released back in 1969. It has recently been re-issued on cd through Pressure Drop which I think has something to do with Cherry Red and contains a lot of bonus tracks. I'm not usually impressed by bonus tracks because they tend to be stuff which was not good enough to feature on a regular release but the tracks on here make it well worth the entrance fee.

15. Scul Hazzards - Keep Quiet (MP3)
Taken from the "Slaughtered Pigs" ep.

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty Five)

1. The Big Pink - Stop The World (4AD)
New material from the band who gave us the brilliant "Velvet" a few months ago. If you pop over to their website and register for e-mail updates you get a free download of the Gang Gang Dance remix of "Velvet" which is well worth getting.

2. The Vera Violets - Destroyer (Safranin Sound)
It seems like quite a while since we last heard anything from the previously impressive Safranin Sound label but it's good to see they are still releasing quality records. This track comes from their latest release which is a new record by The Vera Violets. I think this is their second album but I could be wrong.

3. Kate Simko - Fear Of The Unknown (Ghostly International)
Taken from the album "Music From The Atom Smashers".

4. The Layaways - Come Back Home (Self Released)
This is a track from the latest lp by the Chicago outfit. It's called "The Space Between" and can be downloaded for free from the bands website HERE

5. The Sleepover Disaster - On A Sunday (Devil In The Woods)
Another track from the excellent lp "Hover" which must be one of my most played records so far this year. I know I probably say this every year but I genuinely believe that 2009 has seen some of the best records in years.

6. The Ruling Class - Flowers (Shelflife)
This is taken from the London band's "Tour De Force" EP which was released ages ago through Shelflife. They have a new record scheduled for release on 20th July. It's a seven inch single which contains the tracks "Sleeping Beauty" & "Marian Shrine" and will be released on Loog Records. Hopefully the band will have some copies secreted to their persons when they play at The Duchess in York next week.

30th June - York, 130a Club @ The Duchess
21st July - London, 100 Club
11th September - Leicester, Sumo

7. Bruce Stallion - Feet Of Clay Davis (Probuscus Records)
Taken from the "Bruce Stallion" EP. Cunning eh...

8. Camera Obscura - You Told A Lie (4AD)
Taken from the current and rather wonderful LP "My Maudlin Career". I fail to see how anybody can fail to take something good from this record. Even Nix likes it!!

9. Unicorn Kid - 80900000 (MP3)

10. Half Man Half Biscuit - A Legend In My Time (V.I.P. Dub)
I've spent quite a lot of time this week sorting through boxes of old cd's which have at some time or another become misplaced and chucked in boxes. Some great stuff was rediscovered, most of which I had completely forgotten about including a set of cdr's I burned a few years ago the source from which I have completely forgotten but the label is credited as VIP Dub? This track comes from one of those and is a rather good version of Don Gibson's "A Legend In My Time".
I've got a rather good recent bootleg by the Biscuits and you'll be able to hear that on this site next week.

11. Grey Machine - We Are All Fucking Liars (Version) (Hydra Head)
I need more records like this. This is the b side of a new single by Grey Machine who come from Carlisle in Pennsylvania. Apparently there is an lp in the pipeline and I can't wait to hear it.

12. We Have Band - You Came Out (Kill Em All)
New single

13. Scul Hazzards - Kerosene (MP3)
Taken from the "Slaughtered Pigs" EP

14. Crystal Antlers - Dust (Touch & Go)
I'm probably the last person on the planet to hear this record but I'm glad I finally did. Taken from the album "Tentacles".

15. Ornaith O' Dowd - Five To Four (mp3)

16. Lee Perry with Dubblestandart & Ari Up - Chase The Devil (G-Corps Remix) (Collision Cause)
Mr Perry returns once again with more dub madness. Lee must be one of the most prolific artists of all time. He seems to have been making records forever yet I've never heard one I didn't like. The new record "Return From Planet Dub" sees the legend (a mere 73 years old) hit the back of the net yet again. This time he is joined by production team Dubblestandart and Ari Up formerly of The Slits. This particular track features Ari quite heavily and is the track I keep coming back to.

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty Four)

1. The Lovely Eggs - Have You Ever Heard A Digital Accordion
Quite simply the love of my life at the moment. The Lovely Eggs come from the English town of Lancaster and consist of David and Holly, who used to be in Angelica (remember them?). Their debut album "If You Were Fruit" is available now.

2. Weakness - Fame (In The Fridge)
Taken from the Washington bands self titled debut album.

3. Steve Summer - Shake The House (Jack For Daze)
This is one of three tracks on the debut 12" by Steve Summer. This particular track was apparently recorded on an old analogue tape recorder which may or may not add to your listening pleasure. This is the second release on the Jack For Daze label. The first was a twelve inch by Neville Watson which is hopefully being treated with care in the Royal Mail sorting office en route to my house as we speak.

4. The Field Mice - If You Need Someone (Sarah)
I'm considering doing some kind of Sarah Records special in the not too distant future. I'm not sure exactly what form it will take as yet but I think it would be quite good to post the first track from each of the singles 1-100. If you have any better ideas let me know.

5. The Zookeepers - Bubbling Brine (Self Released)
This is a track from the new Zookeepers record "Ballin' Outrageous" which I think is the second Zookeepers record but I could be wrong, usually am. This isn't the best track on the album by a long way but it does contain the best sample I've heard this year.

6. The Longcut - The Last Ones Here (Melodic)
I had almost forgotten about The Longcut. It's been three years since the Manchester band released their debut album "A Call & Response" on Deltasonic Records and it was undoubtedly one of the best records of the year. The new album is called "Open Hearts" and produces the same kind of abrasive pounding moments as the first although, it's probably just me but I get the impression that the band were possibly slightly pissed off at various times in the recording process. The downloadable version is available now from the usual outlets but if you want hard copy such as a CD or Vinyl you will unfortunately have to wait until October. You can however pre order those formats from the bands website.

19th June - London, The Luminaire
20th June - Stoke On Trent, Old Brown Jug

7. Clark - Luxman Furs (Warp)
Another winner from the album "Totems Flare" which is rapidly becoming the most played album so far this year in my house. This really is a record which you need to have in your collection preferably in it's double vinyl format when it is released on 18th July.

8. Fruit Sand - Tell Me Before (Clinic Tapes)
taken from the album "The Renaissance".

9. Bob Log III - Manipulate Your Figments (Fat Possum)
...and the prize for title of the week goes to...

10. The Orb - A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld (Bootleg)
I still have a soft spot for The Orb. This track was recorded live at this years Coachella Festival.

Camera Obscura - KCRW Session, 12th June 2009

About ten years ago I first heard Camera Obscura on the John Peel show on radio 1. It was a track called "Your Sound" which was the a-side of a seven inch single released on And More Sound records. If I remember I'll find it this week and put it in a future "Fodder". The debut album "Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi" was also one of my favorites including such classics as "Eighties Fan" & "Sun On His Back". The thing is they have always been one of those bands who despite making tremendous records always seemed destined for only limited recognition (see Ballboy, Delgadoes Etc.). That was until this year. Whether it has something to do with their move to 4AD Records or just people in places actually listening to something which is not particularly fashionable. Either way I for one am delighted to see Tracyanne and Co. finally being played to a wider audience. The new album "My Maudlin Career", the promotion of which this session is part, is well up to the usual standard as the band continue their hundred percent record in front of goal. Now I for one always find cover versions interesting. Especially versions of songs which in their original form you could only describe as "crap" of "embarrassing" and on this session Bruce Springsteen's "Tougher Than The Rest" is attempted and executed particularly well. It's just a shame it's original author wasn't.

Tracyanne Campbell - Vocals, Guitar
Kenny McKeeve - Guitar, Vocals
Carey Lander - Keys, Vocals
Gavin Dunbar - Bass,
Lee Thomson - Drums
Francois Marry - Guitar, Percussion
Tim Cronin - Trumpet, Percussion

2. Swans
3. Honey in the Sun

David Gedge & The BBC Big Band

On the face of it this must be one of the strangest ideas ths boy Gedge has ever had. Taking a selection of his classic Wedding Present and Cinerama songs and performing them with what can only be described as a big band, given away slightly by the fact that they celebrate under the moniker of the BBC Big Band. This surreal event took place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in David Gedge's hometown of Leeds on 29th April as part of the Fuse Festival. So does it work? If you missed the programs, two half hour sets broadcast on BBC Radio 2 then you really must give this a listen as you will probably never hear it's like again. It really is a bit of a strange experience. Most of the tracks actually work pretty well. Brassneck for example sounds incredible. The only song which to my ears falls down completely is "And When She Was Bad" but what do I know. Please use the comments facility below to vent your opinion on this... erm... thing.

Taken from the 2006 album "The Secret Of The Loveninjas".

2. Black Channels - Feral Children (Demo)

3. Ackboo - Bangladesh Dub (Roots Youths)
This is the first record I've heard on the Roots Youths label. The catalogue number is RYR1009 which indicates at least eight previous releases.... I'm on it.....

4. The Brownies - It Kills (NR One)
More quality from the NR One stable. This track comes from the debut album by fellow Norwich residents The Brownies. The album "Ourknife Yourback" will be released on 22nd June but can be pre-ordered now from the NrOne website.

5. Pop Will Eat Itself - PWEI-zation (Chapter 22)
Whatever became of Pop Will Eat Itself? This track is take from their 1989 release, the superbly titled "Very Metal Noise Pollution" EP which I only have on cassette. I presume it was on vinyl too. I have a feeling I probably purchased this for the packaging as it comes in a very nice cardboard box type thing with the cassette tucked away in the middle.

6. Boy Genius - Blame Love (Self Released)
This is the excellent new single by Brooklyn's king of pop Boy Genius. If only we had more records like this.

7. Ducktails - Friends (Not Not Fun)
This is a trackfrom what I believe to be the debut Ducktails album which is well worth a purchase for the sleeve alone. I think there are 100 black vinyl pressings floating around one of which needs to find it's way to my house.

8. Evanti - Unleash The Essence (StraightOn Black)

9. Dananananaykroyd - Infinity Milk (Best Before)
Taken from the Glasgow band's debut album "Hey Everyone". The "Dans" as they are known around here are playing at quite a few festivals over the course of the summer.

23rd June - Glasgow, Nice n Sleazy

21st August - Hasselt, Pukklepop
28th August - Reading Festival
30th August - Leeds Festival

10.The Joy Formidable - Chwyrlio (Friends Vs Friends)
This is the b-side of the bands current single "Whirring" which I picked up at their recent York gig which I have to say was totally brilliant. They played a new song during their set which sounded great and I can't wait for some new material. This track is basically a mellowed out Welsh version of "Whirring".

11. Engineers - Brighter As We Fall (Echo)
Apparently it has taken two years for Engineers to record this follow up to their 1995 debut but the wait has been worth it. The new album "Three Fact Fader" will be released through Echo next month. The only date planned at the moment will take place at Bush Hall in London on 10th July. I hope there will be a more widespread tour later in the year. I remember seeing them in York a few years ago and they were tremendous and had one of the best projection shows I can remember seeing.

12. Pullover - Holiday (Starfish)
A nutritious portion of indiepop from 1996.

13. The Cubists - Hallelujah Hollywood (Semi Precious)
Taken from the album "Mechanical Advantage".

14. Clark - Rainbow Voodoo (Warp)
Chris Clark is back with a new album and it is a stormer. The new record is called "Totems Flare" and has been on my i-pod pretty soliudly for the last few days. "Totems Flare" will be released through Warp on 13th July (the day before my birthday) on cd, download and double vinyl.

15. The Lovely Eggs - If You Were Fruit (Cherryade)
The Lovely Eggs are completely new on me although they released a seven inch last year entitled "Have You Heard Of The Lovely Eggs" to which we can now retort a resounding YES!!! This track is taken from the Lancaster duo's debut album "If You Were Fruit" which is available now through Cherryade Records.

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty Two)

>>WANTED<<

People to do stuff on here!
If you want to post your own reviews or perhaps put you own playlists together please get in touch at the usual e-mail address.

1. The Loves - Kaleidoscope (In My Head) (Fortuna Pop)
The Loves have been around for a while now. Almost a decade in fact and in that time (according to their myspace page) have gone through around thirty members. I don't think even The Fall have had that kind of turnover in the last years. One thing that hasn't changed a great deal though is their sound. They still know how to write a good tune and make it sound just how it should. This track is taken from their latest album "Three" which is oddly enough their third album and I think possibly their best yet.

2. Dinosaur Jr - I Want To Know You (Pias)
They never give up do they. Just when you think you've seen the back of Mr Mascis as a creative force back come his Dinosaur Jr roaring into your headphones with a damn good record. The new album is called "Farm" and although it doesn't have the same energy as say "Bug" or Green Mind" this record will not let you down. "Farm" will be released through Pias on 22nd June.

9th June - London, Mojo Honours Show @ The Forum
10th June - Derby, Rockhouse

3. The Big Pink - Velvet (4AD)
I really do love this track. I know it's been on here before but this version has a different intro which is just the excuse I need to play it again.

4. Fingees - Until You Went Away (MP3)

5. Evanti - What You Want (StraightOn Black)
I know I'm always banging on about records you should own but this is a record you must own. I fail to see how normal life can be archived without a healthy dose of this track at least twice a day. Yes it really is that good. I'm going to see if I can get hold of the other releases on StraightOn Black as soon as possible just in case there is anything else as good as this.

6. Half Man Half Biscuit - A Country Practice (Probe Plus)
Whenever I'm feeling peeved the one thing guaranteed to put a smile back on my face is a Half Man Half Biscuit record (or possibly a home made lasagne). This track comes from the 1998 album "Four Lads Who Shook The Wirral".

7. Kap Bambino - Dead Lazers (Original Mix) (Because)
This is the "proper" version of the new single which is taken from the new LP "Blacklist" which is released next week.

9th June - Glasgow, Captains Rest
11th June - Leeds, A Nation Of Shopkeepers (must find out what that is)
12th June - Nottingham, Chameleon Arts Cafe
13th June - Birmingham, Rainbow
14th June - Bristol, Cololer
15th June - Cardiff, Buffalo Bar
16th June - London, Album Release Party @ Cargo

...and then the band go off into Europe to participate in tons of festivals, details of which can be found on their myspace page.

8. Emma - Couch Potato (Mp3)
The B side of the single "Emma Not".

9. Dweazle - Choices (DMP)
This is the latest offering from Dweazle, about whom I have no information whatsoever. Storming tune though.

10. Dreamdate - Fishes (Skywriting)
This is another track from the album "Patience" which has been one of the best surprises of the year.

11. Duchess Says - Ccut Up (Backyard)
A ripple of excitement vibrated across North Yorkshire yesterday as a result of the new Duchess Says EP thumping down on my doormat (address now changed, please amend). I've been pacing up and down impatiently waiting for some new material since last years slightly brilliant "Anthologie Des 3 Perchoirs" Lp last year so imagine my disappointment (taken out on the nearest skirting board and resulting in a sore toe) to discover that all four of the tracks on here were on last years album. To be perfectly honest the first track on this EP "Black Flag" is probably one of my least favorites but we will let that pass because the other three are top stuff and as of next week you will be able to purchase this on a very sexy ten inc slab of vinyl.

12. Miss Haliwell - Amblecoat (Elementary)
This has been pretty much staple fodder on my i-pod this week. It's just a great song and is allegedly taken from an album called "Die Son Die" which I've not heard and is the soundtrack to a film of the same name which I've not seen.

13. Spectrum - War Sucks (Mind Expansion)
Good to see Mr Boom still making records, and not bad ones at that. Perhaps he could try and persuade Mr Sheilds to do the same.

14. The Mary Onettes - Kicks (Labrador)
Definitly the best track on the current "Dare" EP. I must admit this track actually brings tears to my eyes.

Ride - Paris 1990

Ok so it's not the best sounding bootleg in the world but I think this is a very good performence from a band at the top of their game. Ride in 1990 were magnificent and if you don't have a copy of their first album in your collection hopefully this set will inspire you to rectify the situation asap.

1. Seagull
2. Taste
3. Dreams Burn Down
4. Like A Daydream
5. Paralysed
6. Perfect Time
7. Drive Blind
8. Chelasea Girl

Pod Fodder (Volume Forty One)

1. Johnny Foreigner - Feels Like Summer (Best Before)
This is a new single from Birmingham's ace Johnny Foreigner who I would be seeing this week had I not run out of money. It will be available officially from 22nd June through the bands Myspace site

17th May - Manchester, Deaf Institute
18th May - London, Flowerpot (FREE GIG!!!)
20th May - Liverpool, Sound City @ Barfly (with Hot Club De Paris, Tubeord & Calories)
21st May - York, Fibbers
22nd May - Wakefield, Escobar
23rd May - Newport, Meze Lounge
24th May - Northampton, Roadmenders
20th June - Bradford, The New Beehive

2. Crocodiles - Summer Of Hate (Fat Possum)
This is the title track from the American band's debut album which if memory serves is released next week. I've got a Crocodiles live recording as well but I haven't had chance to listen to it yet. If it sounds ok I'll stick it on the site next week.

3. Banjo Or Freakout - The Week Before (Half Machines)
Banjo Or Freakout appears to consist of just one bloke, Alessio Natalizia who as the name might suggest is Italian but is based in London. This as far as I know is his first release. It's a six track E.P. called "Upside Down" which has been released on twelve inch vinyl and that is the format I would recommend. I think we should start a campaign to bring back the twelve inch as the main format. It's just so big and beautiful.

23rd May - London, Twisted Licks @ The Macbeth (with 65 Days Of Static & Giratory System)

4. Cut City - Departure In Particular (Deleted Art)
Another new twelve inch E.P. This time it's some new stuff from Cut City. Regular visitors will remember we featured a couple of tracks from their brilliant "Exit Decades" album last year. Well the Swedes are back with a new five track E.P. it's called "Narcissus Can Wait" and if you buy the twelve inch version you get a download voucher so you don't actually have to play it... Genius

5. Dead Leaf Echo - Half Truth (Northern Star)
This is the first track on the new Dead Leaf Echo mini album which can be purchased in it'sentirety through Northern Star Records in the UK or Tonevendor of you're not.

6. Dananananaykroyd - Totally Bone (Best Before)
Taken from the new album "Hey Everyone".

20th May - Preston, The Mad Ferret
21st May - London, Stag & Dagger @ 93 Feet East (with The Twilight Sad)
22nd May - Leeds, Stag & Dagger @ The Library (with Vivian Girls)
23rd May - Glasgow, Stag & Dagger @ Captains Rest (with The Mai Shi)
24th May - Aberdeen, Moshulu

7. The Voluntary Butler Scheme - Tabasco Soul (Split)
This is a track from the Stourbridge band's new seven inch single which will be released through Split Records in June.

21st May - London, Stag & Dagger Festival
23rd May - Bristol, Dot To Dot Festival
24th May - Manchester, International Festival
26th May - Manchester, Academy 3 (supporting Jason Lytle)
28th May - London, Islington Academy (supporting Jason Lytle)

8. The Fall - Cowboy George (Bootleg)
This is one of the new tracks which can be found on the bootlegs further down this page. Hopefully the new album won't be too long away and will be the best for years (I say that every time a new Fall album appears). Thanks as always to The Consortium for their sterling recording efforts this season.

9. Sinner DC - Sunrized (Ai
This is probably my favorite track on the new album "Crystallized" which according to the Airecords website sounds like "The London Symphony Orchestra being put through an electronic mangle then taken to a Berlin studio to be hung out to dry".

10. The Primitives - Really Stupid (Lazy)
Even though it's almost twenty three years since this record was released it still sounds remarkably fresh. Originally issued in October 1986 through the Coventry band's own Lazy Record label, indiepop don't get much better than this.

11. Monroes Pills - Walking With Lenin (Self Released)
Monroes Pills come from Moscow, Russia (just in case you now of another one) and this track is take from their self released "Pet's Riots" E.P.

12. The Joy Formidable - Austere (Self Released)
Taken from the debut album "A Balloon Called Moaning" which is one of the strongest debuts of the year thus far and I'm looking forward to seeing them in York for the second time in a couple of weeks. The band will be releasing a new single "Whirring" next month.

31st May - Liverpool, Barfly
1st June - Newcastle, Academy
22nd June - York, Fibbers
3rd June - Derby, The Royal
5th June - Manchester, Ruby Lounge
7th June - Birmingham, Bar Academy
8th June - London, Borderline
9th June - Cambridge, Portland
10th June - Southampton, Joiners Arms
11th June - Brighton, Audio

13. Gappy Ranks - Football (Mp3)
I'm glad this season is over to be honest. This season has seen the worst York City team in history and things can only get better. At least the manager seems to be signing some half decent players now but only time will tell. This track is great although I can't quite put my finger on why. There were some really good football compilations released through Exotica about ten or fifteen years ago but I can't for the life of me find any of them. If you have any of the Exotica compilations please get in touch.

14. Lucky Elephant - Edgar (Sunday Best)
This track comes from a new double a-sided single from the London band and will be followed by an album at the end of July.

15. Future Gravity - The Engineer (Demo)
More great stuff from the east (Finland to be precise).
